Hierarchical Cu pillar electrodes for electrochemical CO2 reduction to formic acid with low overpotential.
To achieve high performance of electrochemical CO2 reduction, a series of Cu pillar electrodes (Cu-2.5 h, Cu-5 h) were fabricated by using an electrodeposition method, and then their catalytic activities and reaction mechanisms were investigated. The series of Cu pillar electrodes exhibited improved electrocatalytic activities toward CO2 reduction to formic acid (HCOOH) as Cu pillars on electro...
متن کاملCO2 reduction at transition metal electrodes
A detailed understanding of the mechanism of electrochemical reduction of CO2 to form hydrocarbons can help design improved catalysts for this important reaction. Density functional theory calculations were used here to model the various elementary steps in this reaction on transition metal surfaces, in particular Cu(111) and Pt(111). The minimum energy paths for sequential protonation by eithe...
متن کاملMolecular cobalt electrocatalyst for proton reduction at low overpotential.
Linear trimetallic Co(III)/Co(II)/Co(III) cobalt complexes with bridging acyl-alkoxy ligands are electrocatalysts for the reduction of tosic acid in acetonitrile. The -OCMe2CH2COMe complex appears to operate homogeneously, and at a modest onset overpotential of 175 mV. A turnover frequency of ca. 80 s(-1) was observed at an overpotential of 300 mV.
متن کاملBoron-doped diamond semiconductor electrodes: Efficient photoelectrochemical CO2 reduction through surface modification
Competitive hydrogen evolution and multiple proton-coupled electron transfer reactions limit photoelectrochemical CO2 reduction in aqueous electrolyte. Here, oxygen-terminated lightly boron-doped diamond (BDDL) thin films were synthesized as a semiconductor electron source to accelerate CO2 reduction. However, BDDL alone could not stabilize the intermediates of CO2 reduction, yielding a negligi...
متن کاملα-MnO2 nanowire catalysts with ultra-high capacity and extremely low overpotential in lithium-air batteries through tailored surface arrangement.
We here report on very high capacity (11,000 mA h g(-1)), superb rate capability (4500 mA h g(-1) at 5000 mA g(-1)) and high reversibility of Li-air batteries using α-MnO2 NW catalysts mainly associated with their relatively large amount of Mn(3+) exposed on the NW surface and a unique mechanism for deposition of discharge products. Our findings of the unprecedentedly fast Li ion transport and ...
